The advantage adults have is that once they start learning a language, they have a great desire to learn. Those people are then excited with what they are learning and absorb it faster. Let’s say you have met someone in a foreign country and fell in love or you got a new job which requires international communication, or you just think that a language sounds nice. No matter the circumstances, motivation for learning is going to speed up the process.

3. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TRAIN YOUR BRAIN

Constant learning keeps your brain active. Naturally, training more leads to better results. The brain is a very dynamic structure that can change and adjust to new experiences. So, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Adults need to study in a different way. As young students, you were most likely faster and sharper, but as we have already established, with age you have gained some other skills. Now you only need to take them and turn them into new learning strategies. You can start slowly, taking information little by little, starting with words, then turning them into phrases and sentences. You will be surprised by how fast you can learn.

Maybe you don’t have a lot of time to set aside for studying, due to all your obligations, but you can make the most of the fact that you set your own tempo of learning. Don’t think you are too old or it’s too difficult because we have just proved that isn’t the case.

It is true that older brains cannot be as active as young brains when it comes to learning, but you can change that. An active brain will learn better than an inactive one, so try and work on that. Find new hobbies, such as cooking, gardening, photography or doing crossword puzzles.
