Gamboa Rainforest and Spanish Panama Activities : Gamboa 10 interesting facts and things to do
1 The idea of Gamboa as just that far off territory only inhabited by the Gringos has given a sense it being a no-man’s zone to local Panamanians. They seem always to think of it as much further than it really is. In reality, Gamboa, is, at most, only a 40 minute drive from Gamboa, or just 50 minutes by the $1 bus ride from Albrook bus terminal by Albrook Mall. Yet, most local people see it as being, well, just a little bit further away than Canada. In the collective psyche of Panamanians, the Canal Zone, and especially Gamboa, was considered totally off-limits for a century. It has never been much talked about even in the local press and not even well known by tour agencies ….other than the folks out at Gamboa Rainforest Resort Hotel.
2 Even most foreigners living in Panama have never really heard of or experienced the town and vicinity of Gamboa. Actually, many expats in Panama mistakenly think that Gamboa is really just the area of the hotel and do not actually think of Gamboa as a town as being anything other than the 20 or so buildings that line the road in front of the luxurious Gamboa Resort Hotel. Expats are surprised to learn that Gamboa town really begins about a 10 minute walk away from the Resort area.
