American Society of Panama (AMSOC) or American Association of Panama at Spanish Panama

If you are American and moving to Panama one of the best clubs to get into contact with is the American Society of Panama (AMSOC).

Almost half of SpanishPanama’s Spanish students are from the United States! And many of these students have been associated with this non-profit organization as it is a great way to keep in touch with news back home and US events in Panama as well as get to know fellow Americans. Coming up is the July 4 celebrations, a picnic that will actually be celebrated on July 7.

The American Association of Panama elects its own board of directors. This year the newly elected were Benny Flores as president, Bill Mariano as vice president, Hari Singh as recording secretary and Eunice Greaves as treasurer.

Later in the year a political debate will be held and vital information will be given as concerning voting and major issues affecting Americans living abroad.

The new US Ambassador to Panama, Jonathan Farrar, will likely attend future American Association of Panama events, as this is custom.

Numerous volunteer opportunities are also available, especially in the area of helping children in education and families in need, and this is a great way for Americans to keep active helping out Panama.

      Good morning, Trini,
The American Society of Panama (AMSOC) or American Association of Panama is a great organization for networking and social activities if you are going to be staying long term in Panama. Most of the members are American but membership is open to everyone.
There are volunteer and charitable activities for schools, hospitals, and people needing help in the community.
There are regular postings of items of interest, and social events going on in the city. Celebrations of American holidays are organized as well as a yearly July 4th picnic.
AMSOC is also a vital source of information to Americans for emergency situations that take place in Panama, such as storm warnings, and disturbances such as strikes or protests in the country that may affect expats.
Last year (2012) there were elections for the Board of Directors of the American Association of Panama:
These members were elected to a 2 year term on the board:
      Charlotte Pierce,
      Benilda Flores,
      William Mariano,
      Eunice Greaves,
      Dr. Wayne Samuels
Trini, please contact one of these members for more up to date information on what events are planned for 2013. Great idea to pay the membership fees and make sure you get on their email list!
Spanish Panama has had many students from these American expats over the years and strongly recommends this society.
